Project Description

The Altrusa Club of Duluth recently presented Noteworthy Kids with a check for $1,000 to purchase supplies and continue to provide lessons for the Noteworthy Kids students. In addition, the club also donated $1,000 to St. Ann’s Assisted Living for activities and positive things – especially given that residents of St. Ann’s have been greatly affected by Covid-19.

Noteworthy Kids vice-president, Laurie BoeDee, said that some of the supplies that are being considered include, “a few mics for voice students, music stands (good ones) small inexpensive guitar amps, used violins, metronomes, and the like.” This donation helps to ensure that Noteworthy Kids can continue to fulfil its mission to help financially challenged families in the Duluth, MN and Superior, WI area secure music lessons, instruction and instruments for their children.

Altrusa is an international non-profit organization making local communities better through leadership, partnership, and service. The Altrusa Club of Duluth offers an opportunity to make a real difference in Duluth. They undertake a variety of service, literacy, fundraising and international projects each year and welcome new volunteers to join their organization and make a difference. Their members are from varying occupations and lifestyles, all sharing an interest in community service and enjoying the friendship, fun and satisfaction that comes from working together for the benefit of others.

With the onset of the Covid-10 pandemic the Altrusa Club of Duluth has continued to go forwarding doing positive things. This spring club members and friends helped with assembling protective face shields as part of the Ecolibrium3 Pay It Forward Project. The group made over 4,000 face shields during their four hours shift, demonstrating once again that Altrusans are super workers and helpers in the community!

During the past year the club has: donated 200 bus tickets to Denfeld students in the DASH program (Denfeld After School Happenings); helped out with the New Year’s Eve noon event at the Duluth Public Library and made a donation to the Library Foundation which was matched – effectively doubling the donation; helped out at Ruby’s Pantry; brought food for Life House youth; answered phones for fundraising at PBS public television; helped prepare and serve food at the Damiano Center; and many other fundraising events and service projects that support local organizations, lending a hand, and doing collections (like reading glasses or hygiene products, etc.).

The Altrusa Club of Duluth meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Ecumen Lakeshore, Duluth.
