Music and Fun for the whole family!
The Vancouver Island Symphony presents the 8th Annual Symphony in the
Harbour 2008 on Saturday August 9, 2008 at Maffeo Sutton Park under the
direction of the Symphony's new Artistic Director, Pierre Simard.
"Around the World in 80 Minutes" is the theme for this show which begins at
6 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to take this musical journey while dining
on the grass in Maffeo Sutton Park in Downtown Nanaimo. Says Simard "It is
like going on a mini vacation for the evening, the audience will hear music
from Europe, Canada, the USA, Australia and India that is familiar to them
including classical, pop and jazz."
Something for Everyone! Symphony in the Harbour is about the joy of music
for everyone, drawing over 7,000 people annually from all over Vancouver
Island and beyond! Pack your lawn chair and blanket; and your picnic basket
or purchase food that supports the VI Symphony from our food sponsors -
Thrifty Foods and Island Farms!
ArtsFair 2008
Members of Nanaimo's arts community will be presenting their creations and
information on their upcoming activities, beside the Tim Horton's Go Green
Symphony Zone from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Musical Moments
Everyone is invited to bring along sketch pads and cameras and submit
drawings and photos which will be posted on the VI Symphony web site and in
the lobby at The Port Theatre during symphony concerts. Share your favourite
Musical Moments at Symphony in the Harbour 2008! Send your photos to
admin@vancouverislandsymphony.com please include your name if you would
like to have it listed. Photos will be posted on our photo gallery.
FAMILY Activities
From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. kids can join Aunti Bobbi the Clown to make
beautifully decorated instruments from trash - musical instruments of every
kind with recycled materials provided by the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange.
Kids can also join the Go Green Symphony on stage and play their instruments
with the VI Symphony during the show that begins at 6 p.m. When Aunti
Bobbi's around there's bound to be something extraordinary happen!
NoteworthyKids Musical Instrument Zoo - sponsored by Coast Community Credit Union
The 4th annual NoteworthyKids Musical Instrument Zoo begins at 4:30 p.m.
with musicians from the VI Symphony helping youngsters to play real musical
instruments. (A Toonie donation goes towards the VI Symphony's Education
Programs.) Pick-up a noteworthykids magnet provided by Coastal Community
Credit Union.
